WMC Fest Talk – Oliver Barrett’s Dirty Work

In today’s Weapons of Mass Creation Fest talk, we hear from Cleveland Art Director, Illustrator and Designer Oliver Barrett.

Oliver describes himself as “a former agency-guy who’s learned from several years of mistakes, panic, and triumphs that he might be onto something as a solo designer/illustrator/art-director/generic creative title.”

His talk is entitled, “Dirty Work,” and here’s how he describes it:

These conferences often deliver the message of ‘work hard’ and ‘pursue your passion.’ But what happens when you’re working hard, pursuing your passion, and you’re broke? What occupies that space between ‘taking the risk’ and ‘doing what you love’ for a living? Work does, but it’s not always glamorous and pretty. At least it wasn’t for me. My journey’s been a mistake-laden mess that is just now starting to get headed in a direction that makes me happy. That’s the real goal right? Being happy?

Now listen in and enjoy!
