Artist Statement:

This digital texture set showcases Red Giant’s brand new After Effect’s plug-in, Trapcode Tao. I used a different Trapcode Suite plug-in, Mir, to create two previous Arsenal sets: Wireframe Soundwaves and Fractal Space. After Tao was released at the end of October, I was eager to dive in.

It’s difficult to document the creative process for this type of work because the plug-ins offer infinite options. The biggest problem is usually settling on one aesthetic/theme and then building out a set of 15 similar compositions. But it sure is fun. Ideas become so fluid and fast-changing that I leave behind a trail of breadcrumb compositions as I work. Total mutation of the composition only a camera move or slight property-change away.

After finalizing the shapes and compositions, I used the plug-in Trapcode Shine to add some subtle light rays to give the images a bit more life. I wanted the effect of these “storms” emitting light from their interiors.

These Cosmic Fractal Storm set was my first crack at Trapcode Tao, and I truly cannot wait to spend more time with it. These plug-ins truly are digital playgrounds that never grow tiresome.
